What is a British Record for Sharks?

To claim a British Record for sharks or any species of fish it must be physically weighed.

Due to the size of sharks, and since most are caught at sea, weighing a shark and returning it alive is not practical without risking injury or damage to the shark, the anglers or the boat.

To obtain an accurate weight therefore requires the shark to be killed and brought ashore.

This is not in keeping with the Shark Angling Club of Great Britain policy of conservation through catch and release which is why club introduced its own record listing on the 1st June 2017

The SACGB record listing is called the British Measured & Released Record listing.

This new SACGB listing does not replace the British Record system which remains a current listing
