The committee has already made and adopted a rule amendment which does not promote the boating of Thresher, Porbeagle, or Mako sharks and prohibits publication of images that show boated examples of these species.

The Clubs stance can be summarised as follows:-

•     No boating of Thresher, Porbeagle, or Mako sharks. These species must be handled in‑water to minimise physiological stress and reduce post‑release mortality.

•     No publication of boated images. The club will not post photos or other media that depict these sharks out of the water on any official website or social channels.

•     Club stance. The Shark Angling Club of Great Britain places shark safety and conservation at the centre of its policies and public messaging.

As such, and for members guidance

•     Members are expected to follow best practice handling techniques, keep vulnerable sharks in the water, and use approved revival methods where required.

•     The club has published a short guidance summarising safe in‑water handling and revival procedures.

•     The committee always reviews any content flagged as non‑compliant and takes appropriate action to remove or correct it.

We appreciate any members who raise conservation concerns and offer to help with education and guidance.

In future festivals anglers will not be boating Threshers, Porbeagle and Mako sharks for measuring.
